Last year the ASUS Padfone that was announced looked really awesome, but it never made it to the consumer market. Not long after, ASUS had unveiled a newer redesigned version of their phone/tablet/netbook hybrid. Recently, the folks at NetbookNews got their hands on the Padfone and made a nice unboxing video, giving us a glimpse of all the components and accessories that come with it. This slick device comes with a keyboard, tablet, and stylus.
The device “core” is a 4.3-inch Android 4.0 smartphone, which can dock into a 10-inch tablet shell, which will then display a full tablet UI on the same hardware. Check it out for yourself:
The PadFone shell is available in Taiwain for NT$17990 ($160) which comes unlocked, and with all the extras totals at NT$24,980 ($847). Word is ASUS plans to release it in Europe as well. While ASUS does not have any kind of relationship with US carriers, don’t get your hopes up for an American release.
