When my husband asked me to try and make the same kind of vegetable soup that his mom made when he was a youngster, I knew I had my work cut out for me. I love his mother dearly, and one of her main passions in life is cooking. She lives several hundred miles away though, and he wanted to have her soup more than a couple of times a year. The first thing I did was an online search for organic vegetables in Singapore. I knew that I would not be able to duplicate her recipe exactly, so I needed every advantage to at least make mine taste similar.
Using organic vegetables would definitely help with that advantage. I have cooked with both kinds of vegetables, the organic kind as well as non organic, and the organic definitely has a more flavorful taste. I knew that using the organic vegetables along with the spices and special broth recipe that she also uses would at least put my soup in the same class as hers. I was able to find a local organic store that sells all kinds of organic foods, including vegetables.
I looked through the wide selection, and I was able to select everything I needed. I got potatoes, carrots, cabbage, greens, and beans too. The best part is that after I looked at all of the veggies and placed my order, I started looking at other food categories there too. I ended up adding to my order so I could have some flaxseed buns as well as organic jelly too. That way, he could enjoy the buns with the soup, and I could enjoy jelly on my crackers as a midday snack. I spent hours making the soup, and he told me that it was even better than his mother’s! That is indeed high praise.
